The vibrant hues of tradition and the spirit of unity illuminated the streets of Sorsogon as the much-anticipated Kasanggayahan Festival 2023 kicked off its grand celebration. This annual event, held from October 8 to 17, marks the 129th anniversary of Sorsogon Province’s founding and commemorates the 454th year of Christianity’s presence in Luzon, tracing its roots back to the historic Gibalon shrine in Magallanes, Sorsogon.

The festival, a testament to Sorsogon’s rich history and cultural heritage, captivated the hearts of both locals and visitors alike. Traditional dances, melodious music, and captivating theatrical performances took center stage, weaving a tapestry of Sorsogon’s unique identity. The grand parade, adorned with vibrant floats and resplendent traditional costumes, painted the town with colors of pride and joy, symbolizing the unity of its people.

Senator Francis Tolentino and Department of Tourism Secretary Cristina Garcia Frasco graced the festival’s opening ceremony, emphasizing the event’s significance in promoting Sorsogon’s cultural richness. The morning began with the Unity and Civic Parade, a lively procession that showcased the active participation of various sectors.
